Candle Fragrance Calculator

Calculate exactly how much fragrance oil to add to soy candles, jar candles, wax melts, and small batches. Enter your wax weight, choose a fragrance load, and get the amount in grams and ounces.

Use the total wax weight before fragrance.

Always check your wax supplier's maximum fragrance load.

How much fragrance oil should you add to candles?

Most beginner soy candles work best around 6% to 8% fragrance load. For every 100 g of wax, that means 6 g to 8 g of candle-safe fragrance oil. Some soy waxes can hold up to 10%, but adding more oil does not always make a stronger candle.

Simple candle fragrance formula

Use this formula: wax weight x fragrance load percentage = fragrance oil. For example, 400 g of soy wax at 7% fragrance load needs 28 g of fragrance oil.

Why your candle may not smell stronger

Weak scent throw is often caused by poor curing time, the wrong wick, adding fragrance at the wrong temperature, or using fragrance oil that is not designed for candles. Let soy candles cure for at least 48 to 72 hours, and one to two weeks for best results.
